In 2016, we launched our very first event. It was a “Clothing Swap”. The idea was simple. We wanted to give folks in the Trans Community a chance to have access to free clothing as a source of empowerment.
In 2017, we held both our 2nd & 3rd swaps; each one almost doubled in size from the one before it. We know that for some, it can mean the difference between being able to land a job or just live as our authentic selves. It also helps eliminate, or at least reduce, an expense our community faces. This hopefully opens up more of our personal funds for HRT, surgeries, and more.
Thanks to the generous nature of all who have participated and donated to us, we have been given the opportunity to pay it forward by launching a compliment to our swap; a community closet program. It’s just another way to put these clothes in the hands of someone who needs them.
We are always looking for folks who are interested in becoming drop off donation centers for us as well.
So far, those who have taken in donations have reported a rise in community engagement for each of their facilities.
If you are interested in joining us and or establishing your own community closet, please let us know by contacting our volunteer coordinator!
