We are in search of:
- Already certified foster parents or people willing to become certified foster parents to help kids under 18 that may be struggling with their current foster environment.
- Anyone with extra space that can commit to at least 3 nights (as we work on longer-term resources) for our 18-25 yr old displaced young adults; many of which need safe places to take a shower and eat or stay for a short time, while they try to get on their feet.
Did you know:
“40% of Youth Experiencing Homelessness Identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender (LGBT).
In America, up to 1.6 million youth experience homelessness each year. The statistics for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) homeless youth are even more shocking, as this group represents up to 40% all young people experiencing homelessness. Considering that LGBT youth represent an estimated 7% of the total youth population, these numbers are disproportionately high. While even a single young person without a home is one too many, the disparity of LGBT youth experiencing homelessness is unfathomable.
Once they are out of their homes, LGBT youth are even more vulnerable. They are at a greater risk for victimization, unsafe sexual practices, and mental health issues than non-LGBT young people experiencing homelessness.” [statistics from https://truecolorsfund.org]
Regardless of which city you’re in, we are contacted by youth all over the US and are always in need of additional volunteers and safe homes!
Is a program that was created to help trans teens and young adults get connected to emergency resources during times of crisis.
What we do:
In Transitions began as an underground movement of support for the LGBT community in TN, as a means to assist displaced youth and young adults in and around Eastern, TN. We are currently seeking certified foster parents, people interested in becoming certified, or other folks willing to provide safe housing as a host home for folks between 18-25. In addition, we are also on the look-out to develop partnerships with shelters and other trans friendly housing and social services providers.
For minors under the age of 18, that are homeless, we will do our best to find certified foster parent(s).
Anyone seeking our assistance is required to complete the following form 1st:
We are partnering with a wide network of reliable, safe homes, shelters, and rehabs across the United States, to help our trans youth get off of the streets and into accepting spaces.
