We are in search of good folks that have extra space in their homes and hearts for our displaced youth and young adults, especially in the trans community.

“40% of Youth Experiencing Homelessness Identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender (LGBT).
In America, up to 1.6 million youth experience homelessness each year. The statistics for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) homeless youth are even more shocking, as this group represents up to 40% all young people experiencing homelessness. Considering that LGBT youth represent an estimated 7% of the total youth population, these numbers are disproportionately high. While even a single young person without a home is one too many, the disparity of LGBT youth experiencing homelessness is unfathomable.
Once they are out of their homes, LGBT youth are even more vulnerable. They are at a greater risk for victimization, unsafe sexual practices, and mental health issues than non-LGBT young people experiencing homelessness.” [statistics from https://truecolorsfund.org]

We are in search of certified foster parents or people willing to become certified foster parents to help our kids under 18. And anyone with extra space that can commit to at least 3 nights for our 18-25 yr old displaced young adults; many of which need safe places to stay while they try to get on their feet.

We are proud to be working alongside our allies on the Homeless Youth Council of Knoxville as we develop this program and always in need of additional volunteers and safe homes. Anyone interested in joining us, is encouraged to contact us via facebook: http://www.facebook.com/transempowerment
