Project Description: inTRANSition
InTRANSition is a program that was created to help trans teens and young adults get connected to emergency resources during times of crisis & homelessness.
In what began as an underground movement of support for the LGBT community in TN, has now become a national effort, as a means to assist displaced youth and young adults in and around the U.S..
The program itself, was created in response to a 17 year old Trans teen who was kicked out of his home and placed in a non-accepting foster home.
Our founder worked with this young adult, the court system, CPS, and several others organizations to assure he was placed in a Trans affirming house. Jack also spent a great deal of time working with each of these groups to better understand how we as an organization, could serve this young adult and any others who may be in situations like this in the future.
“40% of Youth Experiencing Homelessness Identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender (LGBT).In America, up to 1.6 million youth experience homelessness each year. The statistics for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) homeless youth are even more shocking, as this group represents up to 40% all young people experiencing homelessness. Considering that LGBT youth represent an estimated 7% of the total youth population, these numbers are disproportionately high. While even a single young person without a home is one too many, the disparity of LGBT youth experiencing homelessness is unfathomable.
Once they are out of their homes, LGBT youth are even more vulnerable. They are at a greater risk for victimization, unsafe sexual practices, and mental health issues than non-LGBT young people experiencing homelessness.” [statistics from https://truecolorsfund.org]

What we need from the community:
We are currently seeking already certified foster parents, or people interested in becoming certified foster parents, to help with kids under 18.
- Anyone with extra space that can commit to at least 3 nights (as we work on longer-term resources) for our 18-25 yr old displaced young adults; many of which need safe places to take a shower and eat or stay for a short time, while they try to get on their feet. Must be willing to take our training. If this sounds like you, please apply to become a host home.
Already certified foster parents or people willing to become certified foster parents to help kids under 18 that may be struggling with homelessness or other current foster environments.
